Honeywell

Honeywell is a diversified American industrial technology conglomerate with a more than century-long history in building controls, aerospace systems and process automation. Its Honeywell Connected Enterprise business unit brings these legacy strengths into the IoT era, offering connected building-management systems, industrial process-control sensors, warehouse and supply-chain automation, and predictive maintenance software for manufacturing plants. Honeywell’s Forge platform provides a common data and analytics layer across these different business lines, letting a single enterprise customer, such as an airport operator or large manufacturer, monitor buildings, equipment and logistics from one interface. Honeywell is particularly strong in process industries — oil and gas, chemicals, mining — where its process control heritage (through its former Honeywell Process Solutions division) gives it deep domain expertise that pure-software IoT vendors lack. It also remains a leading supplier of barcode scanners, mobile computers and other warehouse/logistics hardware through its Honeywell Productivity Solutions unit, an area where it competes directly with Zebra Technologies. For an IoT audience, Honeywell is a useful example of how legacy industrial-automation incumbents are repositioning decades of control-systems expertise as IoT and Industry 4.0 offerings rather than being displaced by newer, software-only entrants.
